According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the Plymouth CDP has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15.4 km 2 ), of which 5.9 square miles (15.2 km 2 ) are land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km 2 ), or 1.25%, are water.
The buildings are arrayed on the west side of Plymouth's town common, laid out not long after the town's settlement in 1763. The 2-acre (0.81 ha) district includes the town hall/court house, the Pemigewasset National Bank building, and the US Post Office building, as well as the Old Grafton County Courthouse (now a local history museum).
It has a unique role as the economic, medical, commercial, and cultural center for the predominantly rural Plymouth, NH Labor Market Area.
