Kickapoo Cavern is undeveloped and is a strenuous underground hiking adventure. Wear sturdy, closed toe, hiking or walking shoes with good traction, and bring two light sources (flashlights or headlamps) per person. Contact the park for more information. Ask us about special group tours and events!

Kickapoo Cavern State Park, formerly the Seargeant Ranch, is about 22 miles north of Brackettville, straddling the line between Kinney and Edwards counties. Its 6,368.4 acres lie on the southern Edwards Plateau.
At Kickapoo Cavern, you can explore nature both above and below ground. Crossroads of nature Three very different natural zones intermingle here, creating a patchwork of plant and animal life. Sprawling live oaks of the Edwards Plateau, cacti of the Chihuahuan Desert, and thorny shrubs of the South Texas plains coexist in the park.
Stuart Bat Cave, located in Kickapoo Cavern State Park, is a spring-summer home for about 1 million Mexican free-tailed bats. Bats are here from mid-February to as late as mid-October. Bat flights are often spectacular. Group tours are available.
Please use Trail Map (available at Park Headquarters) for detailed information. Park is open Friday 8 a.m. to Monday 4:30 p.m. only. Proceed directly to headquarters building (3.2 miles from entrance) and obtain permits and information. • It is illegal to disturb, collect or remove fossils, artifacts, plants or animals from public lands.
Uncommon species of reptiles and amphibians live in the park, including Barking Frog, Mottled Rock Rattlesnake and Texas Alligator Lizard. Kickapoo Cavern, approximately 0.25 mile in length, boasts some impressive formations and can be toured by special arrangement.
