A few years ago $10k would have given you a lot of options. Now the market is crazy unreasonable. Buy the best, most reliable, low mileage car within your budget. Worry about looks when you can afford to help pay for a car.
BMW Z4 3.0i in 6sp manual. It’s by far the most rare trim in the USA though. Can be found for under $10k if you are patient. Will destroy almost any other car under $10k on the track. Generally very reliable as well.
Underrated opinion but I’d go for the newest ford fusion you can find for under $10k with the 2.5 L (non-eco boost) engine. Good tech, smooth driving and good looking cars. You could probably also find a pretty good 2008-2011 Ford Focus SEL or SES for under $5k. Cheap little cars but are very reliable.
I just looked this up and thought some of you could use it. Consumer Reports 2021 recommendations for most reliable cars under $10k (US) are Mazda 3 (2011-14) and Mazda 6 (2010).
Something like a 2009-2012 Ford Fusion/Mercury Milan (the Milan went to 2011) is a great, underrated value on the used car market. Those can be found all day under $10k and are honestly very good cars- they tend to get ignored because they're 1.) sedans in an SUV-crazy market, and 2.) not Toyotas.
Some people think a Kia soul or a Scion toaster are pretty fun. Some people think a 90's Acura Integra is pretty fun. Some people think an old CJ jeep is pretty fun. Any of those can be readily found for under $10k. And probably a number of other cars too, but we need some ideas of what kind of fun you have in mind.
try an 07-08 Acura TL Type S, or go up a margin and look for a 2009-2014 Acura TL SH-AWD. Your best bet under 10k will most likely be a G35/G37 Sedan but the two I mentioned before are from Honda and will offer a bit more reliability. Also, they aren't as common as the G's you see everywhere.
Toyota, Honda, Mazda - can’t really go wrong with anything they make under $10k. Cheap to buy and very cheap to run and maintain. Outside of that, you could probably get a pretty nice Kia or Hyundai and as long as they’re from the last 10-12 years or so then they’re likely to be as reliable as anything from Toyota.
128 auto under 10k, 6mt 135i with the n54 are still easy in the 20s- sold a pristine 2011 135i white on red 6mt for 26k, now it's worth 10 more. One of the best platforms, so much fun! Wanted a del sol and almost every car on this list lol
Ford "Panther Platform" cars - a "platform" is the 60% of the car you don't see (how the axles work, the coolant system, the engine housing, etc.) From 1978-2011, ford made a bunch of cars on their "Panther" platform, and they've been proven to be super reliable. Picture like, old school cop cars.
