The 1915 Inman Hotel is a former hotel building in Champaign, Illinois, United States. It is located at the southeast corner of University Avenue and Walnut Street, a major intersection in the downtown area of Champaign. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Inman Hotel was listed on the Register in 1989. [2]
The hotel was known as an important local gathering place. Huntoon ran the hotel for twenty-six years until selling it. [1] The new owner renamed the hotel the Northwestern Hotel in 1888. It was renamed to the Grand Hotel when sold to a Mrs. Jones in 1907. The Koummoutseas family purchased the hotel in 1961 and again renamed it the Galena Hotel.
The oldest wing of the hotel was built in 1812 by James McFarland. It is one of the oldest structures in Illinois. [2] The earliest portion of the Rose Hotel was built in 1812, and an east addition was constructed in 1848. In the years following the Civil War, a rear dining room and a covered, two-story porch and stairway were added.
The Urbana-Lincoln Hotel – Lincoln Square Mall is a historic building complex located at 300 South Broadway Avenue in Urbana, Illinois. The Tudor Revival style hotel was built in 1923. In 1964, the mall was built as an extension of the hotel; it was one of the first fully enclosed shopping malls in Illinois.
