Brittany Ferries is the trading name of the French shipping company, BAI Bretagne Angleterre Irlande S.A. founded in 1973 by Alexis Gourvennec, that operates a fleet of ferries and cruiseferries between France, England, Ireland, and Spain.
Brittany Ferries ordered the vessel, originally named Honfleur, in June 2017 from German shipbuilder Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft (FSG) at a cost of about €200 million. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] Construction began in March 2018 when the first steel was cut, followed by the laying of the keel several months later.
In late 2016, Brittany Ferries signed a letter of intent with Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft for a new cruise ferry between Portsmouth-Caen to be delivered in 2019. The new vessel, Honfleur , would result in a fleet movement with Normandie assigned to the Portsmouth-Le Havre service from late 2019.
She was delivered to Brittany Ferries on 9 November 2007 and undertook berthing trials in Portsmouth and Poole on 14 November 2007 prior to sailing to her homeport of Cherbourg arriving the next day. The ship was christened and her first commercial sailing was the 23:45 Cherbourg–Poole service on 26 November 2007. [ 1 ]
MV Mont St Michel is a ferry operated by Brittany Ferries. The vessel was built at Van der Giessen de Noord shipyard in the Netherlands and has been sailing for Brittany Ferries since 2002. Mont St Michel was to be named Deauville or Honfleur but this was thought to be too similar to Barfleur .
In 1988, she was sold to Brittany Ferries and was sent to Jos. L. Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany. She was renamed the Duchesse Anne and was put on the Saint-Malo - Portsmouth route. She was later introduced on the Saint-Malo - Cork, Roscoff - Cork and Plymouth - Roscoff routes.
