Delhi (/ ˈ d ɛ l h aɪ /; DEL-hy) refers to both a former township and unincorporated community located off of the junction of Ontario Highways 59 and 3. Delhi is known as the "Heart of Tobacco Country ."

Norfolk County (/ ˈ n ɔːr f oʊ k / NOR-fohk) is a rural single-tier municipality on the north shore of Lake Erie in Southwestern Ontario, Canada with a 2023 population of 73,015. [3] Despite its name, it is no longer a county by definition, as all municipal services are handled by a single level of government.
At Delhi, Highway 3 turns south for 4 km (2.5 mi) before returning to its eastward orientation. It continues through farmland to the town of Simcoe , where it meets Highway 24 . From Simcoe to Canborough, the highway is nearly straight as an arrow, with an occasional jog to the northeast. [ 8 ]
The route of Highway 59 followed what is now Norfolk Highway 59, Oxford County Road 59 and Perth County Road 107. The majority of this route travels through rural farmland and small communities, which dominates southwestern Ontario, although there are several notable towns encountered along the highway, including Courtland, Delhi, Norwich, Woodstock and Shakespeare.

The Ontario tobacco belt is the tobacco-growing region located in Norfolk County and eastern Elgin County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The region is close to the north shore of Lake Erie , with a moderate climate and sandy, silt-loam soils that are well-suited to a wide variety of crops.
Southwestern Ontario is flat, primarily agricultural land, that takes advantage of the fertile clay soil deposited throughout the region. [19] [20] The main river through the region is the Thames River, which drains the second largest watershed in southern Ontario and largely influences the land use surrounding the highway. [21]
