The Trust was temporarily merged into the North Wales NHS Trust on 1 April 2009, and after further reconfiguration into a new organisation, combining all three NHS Trusts in North Wales called the Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board on 1 October 2009.
The original hospital on the site was built in the early 20th century. [1] The site was redeveloped to create a substantially enlarged facility, intended to facilitate the closure of the aging Druid Isolation Hospital, [2] [3] in 1993. [4]
The facility has its origins in the Holyhead Workhouse Infirmary at Black Bridge on the north-west part of Salt Island which opened in 1852. [1] This became the Valley Public Assistance Institution in 1930 and joined the National Health Service as Valley Hospital in 1948. [1]
It is managed by the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The hospital is a Grade II listed building. [1] It has no in-patient facilities but is used for a range of outpatient services including physiotherapy, X-ray and CAMHS. [2]
