[1] According to the 2020 Mexican census, Durango is the 25th most populous state with 1,832,650 inhabitants, but the 4th largest by land area spanning 123,575.36 square kilometres (47,712.71 sq mi).
The area of Durango is 123,451.2 km 2 or 12.3 million ha; this accounts for about 6.3% of the entire territory of Mexico. It is the fourth largest state, [8] [9] lying at the extreme northwest of the Central Mexican Plateau, where it meets the Sierra Madre Occidental—the highest peaks in the state.
[4] [1] [5] The city's official name is Victoria de Durango, renamed in honor of the first president of Mexico, Guadalupe Victoria, a native of the state of Durango. The city is at an altitude of 1,890 m (6,201 ft) in the Valley of Guadiana. Durango was founded on 8 July 1563, by the Spanish explorer Francisco de Ibarra.
San Juan de Guadalupe is a municipality in the Mexican state of Durango. The municipal seat lies at San Juan de Guadalupe. The municipality covers an area of 2343.1 km². As of 2010, the municipality had a total population of 5,947, [1] up from 5,858 as of 2005. [2] As of 2010, the town of San Juan de Guadalupe had a population of 1,712. [1]
