Ada Limón (born March 28, 1976) is an American poet. [1] On July 12, 2022, she was named the 24th Poet Laureate of the United States by the Librarian of Congress . [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] This made her the first Latina to be Poet Laureate of the United States. [ 5 ]

Limón deliberately avoided creating a collection with a "narrative arc". [1] [2] Instead, Limón organized the poems into sections corresponding to the four seasons. [2]Some of the poems in the collection were written during isolation induced by the COVID-19 pandemic, and were sent by Limón as "gifts" to people she could not see in person prior to publication in The Hurting Kind. In May 2024, the Julian Arts Guild featured Poet Laureate of the United States Ada Limón at its Poetry on the Mountain event at Julian High School's Little Theater. Limón is the 24th U.S. poet laureate and the first Latina in that position.
