Community Regional Medical Center is one of 15 level I trauma centers in California. [6] [7] In 2018, it had the eighth-most Medicare inpatient discharges in California, of 808 total. [8] In 2020, its neurosurgical trauma services were reinstated after a brief suspension of services. [9] [10]
It operates one of four burn centers in Northern California. It is the only trauma center in California to co-locate all five of these services on one campus. Santa Clara Valley Medical Center operates numerous critical care units including the highest level neonatal intensive care unit.
Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) is a teaching hospital in California's Inland Empire region. Opened in 1905, it is a level 1 trauma center and is staffed by nearly 900 faculty physicians and over 1,000 beds. The main tower of the center was built in 1967 and is 9 stories high.
The standards for Level 1 trauma centers are designated by the Department of State Health Services and verified by the American College of Surgeons. There are 22 in the state.

[2] Highland Hospital is affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and is also home to the UCSF East Bay Surgery Program.
