Pitino is the son of St. John's University men's basketball head coach Rick Pitino. After attending St. Sebastian's School in Needham, Massachusetts, Richard Pitino earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Providence College in 2005. During his time at Providence, Pitino was the manager for the Friars men's basketball team under Tim Welsh.
Pitino's record, per the NCAA, is 731-303 after he was forced to vacate 123 victories during his time at Louisville, which included a national title in 2013 and a Final Four appearance in 2012.
