Atikameksheng Anishnawbek (Anishinaabe language: Adikamegosheng Anishinaabeg, syncoped as Dikmegsheng Nishnaabeg), formerly known as the Whitefish Lake First Nation, is an Ojibway First Nation in northern Ontario, Canada. Its reserve is located at Whitefish Lake 6 on the shores of Whitefish Lake, 20 km southwest of Sudbury.
The Anishinabek Nation, also known as the Union of Ontario Indians, is a First Nations political organization representing 39 member Anishinabek Nation First Nations in Canada in the province of Ontario, Canada. [1] The organization's roots predate European contact in the 16th century, in the Council of Three Fires.
The Union of Ontario Indians later became the Anishinabek Nation. A variant of the logo using a red background was officially adopted in 1980. [38] Both the white background and red background designs have been used as pan-Anishinaabe flags. [39] [40] Different Anishinaabe political organizations have their own specific flags and emblems.
The First Nation is a member of Ogemawahj Tribal Council, a regional Chiefs' council, and in June 2016 rejoined the Union of Ontario Indians/Anishinabek Nation.
