Donnell Clyde Cooley was born in Grand, Oklahoma. [2] Being part Cherokee, he was sent to the Chemawa Indian School in Salem, Oregon, in his youth. In 1930, during the Dust Bowl, Cooley's family moved to California. It was here that he took the nickname "Spade" after he played a poker game and won three straight flush hands, all in spades. [3]

Chockie (formerly Chickiechockie) is an unincorporated community 11 miles northeast of Stringtown, in Atoka County, Oklahoma, United States. [1] A post office was established at Chickiechockie, Indian Territory on June 17, 1891. Its name was changed to Chockie on February 8, 1904. The post office closed on March 15, 1905.
The Miller Brothers 101 Ranch was a 110,000-acre (45,000 ha) cattle ranch in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma before statehood. Located near modern-day Ponca City, it was founded by Colonel George Washington Miller, a veteran of the Confederate Army, in 1893. [4]
