Kastoria (Greek: Καστοριά, Kastoriá [kastoˈrʝa]) is a city in northern Greece in the region of Western Macedonia. It is the capital of Kastoria regional unit, in the geographic region of Macedonia. It is situated on a promontory on the western shore of Lake Orestiada, in a valley surrounded by limestone mountains.
Orestis (Greek: Ὀρεστίς) was a region of Upper Macedonia, corresponding roughly to the modern Kastoria regional unit located in West Macedonia, Greece. Its inhabitants were the Orestae , an ancient Greek tribe that was part of the Molossian tribal state or koinon .
Colonel Anastasios Dalipis in 1945 stated Kastoria prefecture had a total of 110 villages with 75 populated by Slavophones. Maniakoi (Greek: Μανιάκοι) is a town in the municipal unit of Agia Triada, Kastoria regional unit, Western Macedonia, Greece. Since the 2010 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Kastoria. [2] It was the seat of the former municipality Agia Triada between 1997 and 2010. [3] In 2021 its population was 2,612. [1]
