The Prospect Park Second Plat Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in the north-central section of Des Moines, Iowa, United States.The residential area contained middle to upper class housing that was developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the suburb of North Des Moines.
At the same time the Ingersoll Run sewer line was put under contract. The 21,460 feet (6,541 m) of main sewer line brought sewer service to the northwest side of Des Moines. Early residential development began near Ingersoll Park, an amusement park that was located at 42nd Street and Ingersoll until 1911.
The even-numbered houses on the north side of the district were built after the building permits were issued on March 19, 1926 to V. V. Veneman. The houses on the south have a more varied porch treatment, which suggests that there was interest in visual variety that faded by the time the houses on the northern were built.
