The Baltic International Academy (Latvian: Baltijas Starptautiskā akadēmija, Russian: Балтийская международная академия) is the largest degree-awarding tertiary educational institution in Latvia teaching primarily in the Russian language and the largest non-government higher education establishment in the Baltic countries.
The Riga Graduate School of Law (abbreviated as RGSL; Latvian: Rīgas Juridiskā augstskola) in Riga, Latvia is an autonomous law school in the Baltic region offering Bachelor, Master and Doctoral studies. It was established in 1998 through an international agreement between the Governments of Sweden and Latvia and the Soros Foundation.
Riga Technical University (RTU) (Latvian: Rīgas Tehniskā universitāte) is the oldest technical university in the Baltic countries established on October 14, 1862. It is located in Riga , Latvia and was previously known as 'Riga Polytechnical Institute' and 'Riga Polytechnicum'.
In 2001 it changed its status from a regional governmental institution to a state educational institution. Later in 2004 it introduced two master's degree study programmes. In October 2013 it received the Green Flag award, becoming the first institution of higher education in the Baltic states to hold international Eco university status. [3]
The LMA was established as an independent tertiary education public institution on 8 January 1993, when it got its first accreditation. [6] [7] In 2013, officials from the Latvian Ministry of Education and the Riga Technical University proposed the LMA to enter negotiations on merging back with the Riga Technical University. [8]
The school was founded in 1994 by the Stockholm School of Economics with the support of the Swedish government, and the Latvian Ministry of Education on behalf of Latvia. [1] Since 2010 SSE Riga is owned by a foundation established by the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), the University of Latvia (LU) and the SSE Riga Alumni Association.
