Pokémon Stadium 2, known in Japan as Pokémon Stadium Gold & Silver, [a] [b] is a strategy video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. It is the third game in the Pokémon Stadium series, following prior releases Pocket Monsters Stadium and Pokémon Stadium .
Gold and Silver were designed for the Game Boy Color, allowing them full color support and more detailed sprites. Other additions that were shown included Pokémon breeding, held items, an in-game gadget known as the PokéGear, a real-time internal clock, and backward compatibility with the previous games in the series.
The games were released for the Nintendo DS on September 12, 2009 in Japan to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the original Gold and Silver release. [12] Junichi Masuda stated on his blog that "we, Game Freak have spent long and firm time developing above two titles ", and that "'Pokémon Gold & Silver' will be back with far more excitement."
