The station on 94.3 FM in San Fernando first signed on the air as KVFM in 1958, but for a long time it was KGIL-FM, a radio station playing adult standards, along with sister station to KGIL AM 1260. On August 5, 1989, it became KMGX, "Magic 94.3". (KMGX is now a classic rock station in Bend, Oregon.

It is my understanding that KNAC originally was a subscriber muzak station for local Long Beach merchants. Muzak was played from 10AM to 6PM--normal business hours. Around 1967 or so the owners (Jim Hardin?) were approached about allowing hippies(?) to broadcast long form music from 6PM to midnight if they could bring in sponsors.
On November 18, KBUA and KEBN, the other area station on 94.3 FM, began simulcasting the same country music format, and 94.3 in San Fernando became KYKF. This lasted until October 31, 1996, after the San Fernando station was sold to Liberman and started simulcasting KBUE, and on January 31, 1997, it acquired the KBUA call letters.
