Melanau (Malay: Orang Melanau, Melanau: Tenawan Melanau) or A-Likou (meaning River people in Mukah dialect) is an ethnic group indigenous to Sarawak, Malaysia. They are among the earliest settlers [3] of Sarawak. They speak the Melanau language, which is a part of the North Bornean branch of Malayo-Polynesian languages.
The Dalat Melanau Association was registered on 9 September 2010 under Association Act 1966–33 with Registrar Of Societies Number PPM-002-13-09092010. [22] The association aims to encourage Melanau at Dalat district to be more proactive and while helping to promote progress for local Melanau people.
Mukah Division is one of the twelve administrative divisions in Sarawak, Malaysia. It was established on 1 March 2002 and it has a total area of 6,997.61 square kilometres. The Matu District is a district in Mukah Division, Sarawak, Malaysia. Before Mukah Division was established, Matu was within Sarikei Division. There are more than 20 villages in the district, with Melanau making up the majority of the population. Chinese are the second biggest population after the Melanau. The population is 21,400 in 2020.

[4]The district also covers an area of 2,536 square kilometres (979 sq mi) with a population about 49,900 in the Mukah town [5] and 18,800 in the Dalat administrative town of Dalat District.
