Colfax Avenue is the main street that runs east–west through the Denver metropolitan area in Colorado. As U.S. Highway 40 , it was one of two principal highways serving Denver before the Interstate Highway System was constructed.

Named for U.S. Vice President Schuyler Colfax and incorporated in 1891 with a population of around 300, the Town of Colfax was its own municipality. Golden Avenue was the town's main street, so named as it was the link between Denver and Golden. It was renamed Colfax Avenue in 1896. In 1897 the Town of Colfax was annexed by the City of Denver. The Colorado Colfax Kids Marathon was a race like the Colorado Colfax Marathon, established in 2006. The run was for Kindergarten to 8th grade students. It was a run that is only 1.2 miles (1.9 km). The students ran the other 25.2 miles (40.6 km) in training. The training lasted from February to early May.
