I remember my Staff Sergeant Promotion Board. The question I was asked was "Can POWs receive mail?" Confidently I said "No." The 1SG who asked me the question asked me "if I was sure." At that point I knew I was wrong, but I did not want to change my answer and show any sign of uncertainty. The CSM asked me to explain my reasoning behind my answer. I told ...
I’m currently trying to study for the E5 to E6 promotion board. They are situational based questions. I understand It’s more of a opinionated board although you still need to memorize some sort of doctrine. Where can I start? I’m having trouble finding a starting point. I’ve been reading regs but would anyone happen to have any advice?
Get your promotion board topics, read through the regulatory guidance on each and have more experienced leaders ask you situation questions and provide feedback throughout the day. It's also important to understand what Army programs are offered and in which situation you'd refer someone to these programs.

What are common situational questions for a NG 92Y AGR Board?: I have spent a lot of time studying for a 92Y AGR board and feel relatively confident with the job knowledge questions. I am trying to get ahead of the board and have thought through some of the most common situational questions before I sit before the board and try to answer. Thanks!
The thing that helped me the most was mock boards. Ask your NCOs to hold some for you. In Korea it was required at the time to go to the Soldier of the Month board prior to going to the promotion board. It took less stress off “failing” and it gave me practice and more confidence for the promotion board.
Finally off my profile back to running miles on miles and of course killing it in the gym as always. I've been studying all the subjects that were put on my MOI for the board and YES I have been studying really hard and for long amounts of time! I am an intel guy so if you could throw scenario questions at me from subjects like SHARP, EO, Maintenance, Weapons, ABCP (AR 600-9), AER (AR 600-85 ...
