The Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, formerly known as the Lahey Clinic, is a physician-led nonprofit teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine based in Burlington, Massachusetts. The hospital was founded in Boston in 1923 by surgeon Frank H. Lahey, M.D. , [ 1 ] [ 2 ] and is managed by Beth Israel Lahey Health .
Eventually, the Jewish community moved out of Mount Auburn and Avondale, leading to Jewish Hospital's move to Kenwood in 1997. Hurwitz served as Mount Auburn Hospital's first director of medical education, establishing ties with Harvard Medical School and solidifying Mount Auburn's status as a teaching hospital during his tenure as Chief of Medicine from 1951-1970. In the process, Hurwitz established the institutional prototype of a community teaching hospital. [4]
