Situated on the Left Fork of the Holly River near the town of Hacker Valley, it is the second largest park in the West Virginia state park system with a total of 8,294 acres (3,356 ha). Sutton Lake is a 1,520-acre (6 km 2) reservoir on the Elk River in Braxton and Webster counties, West Virginia. Sutton Lake is located just upstream of Sutton. It was authorized by Congress in the Flood Control Act of 1938. Construction of the dam began in 1956 and was completed in 1961.
The Holly River is a tributary of the Elk River in central West Virginia in the United States. Via the Elk, Kanawha , and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River , draining an area of 148 square miles (380 km 2 ) [ 5 ] in a rural region of the Allegheny Mountains .

Big Ugly Wildlife Management Area is located on 3,061 acres (1,239 ha) [2] near Logan in Lincoln County, West Virginia. The Big Ugly's steep terrain is covered with mixed hardwoods second growth woodlands. Camping is not allowed at Big Ugly WMA, [2] but is available at nearby Chief Logan State Park.
