Frances Xavier Cabrini MSC (Italian: Francesca Cabrini (birth name), July 15, 1850 – December 22, 1917), also known as Mother Cabrini, was a prominent Italian-American religious sister in the Roman Catholic Church. She was the first American to be recognized by the Vatican as a saint.
Maria Francesca Cabrini was born on July 15, 1850, in what is now the Italian Province of Lodi, and began her career as a school teacher.Around 1870, she became headmistress of the orphanage in Codogno, where she taught and drew a small community of women to live a religious way of life.
