Tinzaparin is an antithrombotic drug in the heparin group. It is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) marketed as Innohep worldwide. It has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for once daily treatment and prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
A blood test including platelets and a clotting screen should be performed prior to administration of anticoagulant regimens in pregnancy. [13] Subcutaneous tinzaparin may be given at doses of 175 units of antifactor Xa activity per kg, [13] based on prepregnancy or booking weight at approximately 16 weeks, and not the current weight. [13]
Apart from using unfractionated heparin instead, it may be possible to reduce the dose and/or monitor the anti-Xa activity to guide treatment. [3] The most common side effects include bleeding, which could be severe or even fatal, allergic reactions, injection site reactions, and increases in liver enzyme tests, usually without symptoms. [13]
Common diagnostic procedures require PCR amplification of a patient's DNA, which is easily extracted from white blood cells treated with heparin. This poses a potential problem, since heparin may be extracted along with the DNA, and it has been found to interfere with the PCR reaction at levels as low as 0.002 U in a 50 μL reaction mixture.
The two primary methods are testing for the female pregnancy hormone (human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)) in blood or urine using a pregnancy test kit, and scanning with ultrasonography. [1] Testing blood for hCG results in the earliest detection of pregnancy. [2] Almost all pregnant women will have a positive urine pregnancy test one week ...
A Miami Herald investigation into the boat crash that killed a 17-year-old Lourdes student reveals a deeply flawed probe as FWC investigators and prosecutors built a case against George Pino.
The test is performed by administering a progestogen, such as progesterone either as an intramuscular injection or oral medroxyprogesterone acetate (Provera). If the patient has sufficient serum estradiol (greater than 50 pg/mL), withdrawal bleeding should occur 2–7 days after the progestin is withdrawn, indicating that the patient's ...
