The Almaty Tower or Kök Töbe Tower, the city's television tower, is located on the south-eastern slope of the hill. [2] It was built during 1975 and 1983, and if measured from sea level, this tower is one of the highest in the world – 372 meters tall. It has a couple observation platforms, but they are not open to the public.
The concrete base of the tower stands 60 meters high, weighing 45,000 tons (with a total design weight of 50,000 tons). Inside, the tower features a lattice structure made of metal beams lined with aluminum plates, and two elevators were installed in the shaft. Construction of the tower began in 1978, starting with soil ramming and leveling.
