Fort Irwin National Training Center (Fort Irwin NTC) is a major training area for the United States military in the Mojave Desert in northern San Bernardino County, California. Fort Irwin is at an average elevation of 2,454 feet (748 m). [1] It is located 37 miles (60 km) northeast of Barstow, in the Calico Mountains.
The range is located at the southern end of the Fort Irwin Military Reservation, and is approximately 12 miles long. The highest point, Tiefort Peak, is 5,063 feet (1,543 m) high and is the 2,482nd highest mountain in California and the 24,629th highest mountain in the United States. [1]
In 1986, the Brigade assumed the mission as the Opposing Force at the National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin, California. The Brigade consisted of 2 battalions: 6th Battalion, 31st Infantry (6–31 IN) and 1st Battalion, 73rd Armor (1–73 AR).
The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment ("Blackhorse Regiment") [1] is a unit of the United States Army garrisoned at the Fort Irwin National Training Center in California.The regiment has served in the Philippine–American War, the Pancho Villa Expedition, World War II, the Vietnam War, Gulf War and Iraq War.
