In 1947 these ladies appealed to the Commissioners' Court of Fort Bend County to establish a library which was granted and constructed by 1948. The original building held 1,000 books but was quickly deemed to be insufficient for growth and a new library underwent construction in November 1948.
Fort Bend County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. The county was founded in 1837 and organized the next year. [1] It is named for a blockhouse at a bend of the Brazos River. The community developed around the fort in early days. The county seat is Richmond. The largest city located entirely within the county borders is Sugar Land.
Fort Bend County Libraries operates the George Memorial Library, the main library, in Richmond. The main library was originally located in Rosenberg, near the Polly Ryon hospital. The library moved to Richmond in 1986. The library underwent extensive renovations in 2013 and reopened with new technology, media rooms, and room design. [18]

Fulshear's Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library, located in Fulshear, is a part of the Fort Bend County Libraries system. The branch, which opened in May 1998, was the third branch built with 1989 bond funds. The land currently occupied by the library was previously the Fort Bend County Precinct 4 headquarters.
In December 1989 the Commissioners Court of Fort Bend County, in accordance with Texas Local Government code §323.021(a), ordered the construction of a law library. [22] The main library expansion and the 1991 installation of an automation system used funds from the 1989 bond election, and expansion occurred on 1995 and 2002.
