Trinity Washington University is a private Catholic university in Stronghold, Washington, D.C., United States. [1] The university was founded as Trinity College by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1897 as the nation's first Catholic liberal arts college for women. Trinity was chartered by an Act of Congress on August 20, 1897.
In 1912, the university moved its principal operations to the Foggy Bottom neighborhood of Washington, D.C. [27] Many of the colleges of the George Washington University are notable for their age and history. The law school is the oldest law school in the District of Columbia. [28]
American University was established in the District of Columbia by an Act of Congress on December 5, 1892, primarily due to the efforts of Methodist bishop John Fletcher Hurst, who aimed to create an institution that could train future public servants. Hurst also chose the university's site, which was in the rural periphery of Washington, D.C.
