Ned Bittinger was born in 1951 in Washington, D.C. He started painting and drawing in the third grade. When he was 13, his parents sent him to the Cochran Art School of Washington, D.C. Charles Clark Reid (August 12, 1937 – June 1, 2019) [1] was an American painter, illustrator, and teacher, notable for his watercolor style. [2] He won numerous national and international awards for both his watercolor and oil works, and also hosted many workshops in the US and abroad.
The 83 × 67 cm (33 × 26 in) painting shows a half-length portrait of the painter Édouard Manet. In this self-portrait as painter he depicted himself as a stylish Boulevardier in front of a dark background. The depicted wears a black top hat and a brown jacket, under which is a white shirt, of which only the collar can be seen.
