The International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) was an international trade union.It came into being on 7 December 1949 following a split within the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), and was dissolved on 31 October 2006 when it merged with the World Confederation of Labour (WCL) to form the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).
The organisation was founded in 2007, at a congress in Accra, with the merger of the ICFTU African Regional Organisation and the World Confederation of Labour's Democratic Organization of African Workers' Trade Union. [1]
In 1965, the ICFTU's secretariat placed the organisation under the direct control of the ICFTU General Secretary, and it did not regain its autonomy until 1972. At that year's congress, F. T.
