The league was further weakened when a traditionally strong member, Austin, moved up to the AA Texas League in 1956. The Sydney Blue Sox are a professional baseball team, and one of eight foundation teams in the re-formed Australian Baseball League (ABL). The team plays their home games at Blacktown International Sportspark (BISP), [2] one of the two venues used for baseball at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, when it was known as Blacktown Olympic Park.
Austin previously was represented in Junior hockey by the Austin Mavericks, a team that first participated in the Midwest Junior Hockey League from 1974 to 1977 and following a league merger competed in the United States Hockey League from 1977 to 1985. Austin is home to two amateur baseball clubs, the Austin Blue Sox and Austin Greyhounds.
