The place got its name from John Hodges Winsloe since he owned the largest area of the land in mid of the 19th century. [10] In 1872 the Prince Edward Island railway was inaugurated to connect Winsloe placed towards the mainline between Charlottetown and Summerside and afterwards towards the Port Borden.
A smaller urban area surrounds Summerside Harbour, situated on the southern shore 40 kilometres (25 mi) west of Charlottetown Harbour, and consists primarily of the city of Summerside. Spring Park is a Canadian neighbourhood in the city of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Spring Park derived its name in 1925 from the Spring Park School District whose southern boundary at that time was located along the northern boundary of the city of Charlottetown and west of the villages of Parkdale and Sherwood .

The median age is 40.8 years of age compared to 44.0 years of age for Prince Edward Island and 41.6 years of age for all of Canada.
From September 1 to 7, 1864, Prince Edward Island hosted the Charlottetown Conference, which was the first meeting in the process leading to the Quebec Resolutions and the creation of Canada in 1867. Prince Edward Island found the terms of union unfavourable and balked at joining in 1867, choosing to remain a colony of the United Kingdom.
