The 25th Avenue station is a local station on the BMT West End Line of the New York City Subway, located in Brooklyn at the intersection of 25th Avenue and 86th Street, on the border of the Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, and Gravesend neighborhoods of Brooklyn. This station is served by the D train at all times.
Bay Parkway opened on July 29, 1916, as part of an extension of the BMT West End Line from 18th Avenue to 25th Avenue.The line was originally a surface excursion railway to Coney Island, called the Brooklyn, Bath and Coney Island Railroad, which was established in 1862, but did not reach Coney Island until 1864. The 86th Street portion and Bay Ridge Avenue portion of the B1 (west of 25th Avenue) were B34 until 1978. Service via Brighton Beach was the B21 bus until 1978. Service originally ran via the Sheepshead Bay (BMT Brighton Line) station.
The first portion of the line, between the 36th Street station on Fourth Avenue and 62nd Street station, opened on June 24, 1916, with two tracks. The 86th Street station was constructed as part of the Fourth Avenue Line. The plan for the line was initially adopted on June 1, 1905, before being approved by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of New York on June 18, 1906, after the Rapid Transit Commission was unable to get the necessary consents of property owners along the planned route.
