This is a comprehensive list of Catholic dioceses in the island of Ireland. Catholicism in Ireland only maintains a Latin Church hierarchy, encompassing both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, having been unaffected by the partition of Ireland in 1920–22. There are no Eastern Catholic jurisdictions, nor other exempt ordinariates.
The other 199 parishes had been grouped into sixteen deaneries since 2004, with pastoral responsibility for each of these deaneries resting with a number of auxiliary bishops or episcopal vicars. Each individual deanery is led by a vicar forane, whose responsibility it is to ease the administrative burden on the Archbishop. [1]

St Peter's was originally envisaged as the parish church for the expanding post-Famine Catholic population of Belfast. The site was provided by a wealthy Belfast flour merchant and philanthropist, [ 4 ] Bernard Hughes [ 5 ] while the church was designed by Fr Jeremiah Ryan McAuley, who had trained as an architect before he became a priest.
