Ansar al-Khilafah was an armed rebel group participating in the Syrian Civil War against the Syrian government and its allies. The group was founded in the Aleppo Governorate by five local Al-Nusra units and upon its foundation declared allegiance to Hizb ut-Tahrir.
The group participated in meetings between small Salafi factions. They were also in talks with the Islamic State, in which IS supported the group in their fight against Turkey and Turkish-backed factions. Abu Osama al-Azeri, an IS representative, suggested the establishment of an alliance between the two groups against Turkey. [10]

The group targeted many bases and soldiers of the U.S. military and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
