Liberty Station is a mixed-use development in San Diego, California, on the site of the former Naval Training Center San Diego. [1] It is located in the Point Loma community of San Diego. It has a waterfront location, on a boat channel off San Diego Bay , just west of San Diego International Airport and a few miles north of downtown San Diego .
Upon opening in October 2015, Liberty Center had over 94 retailers and restaurants, including a Cobb Theatres CineBistro dine-in theater. The center was built on 65 acres (26 ha) of land, with over 1,200,000 square feet (110,000 m 2) of retail space. Also included in the original development were an AC Hotels and 249 apartments.
Parts of Liberty Station and Point Loma Village are also fill land, reclaimed from sand spits and wetlands surrounding the Bay. The only remnant of the formerly extensive wetlands in Point Loma, aside from the riverbed itself, is a city-owned nature preserve called Famosa Slough, which branches off from the river near its mouth.
