Manistee (/ m æ n ɪ s t i / man-iss-TEE) is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan.Located in southwestern Manistee County, it is part of the northwestern Lower Peninsula.Manistee is the county seat of Manistee County, and its population was 6,259 at the 2020 census. [5]
Wellston is in southeastern Manistee County, near the center of Norman Township. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the CDP has an area of 1.01 square miles (2.6 km 2), of which 0.04 square miles (0.10 km 2), or 4.04%, are water. [1] Two small lakes, Crystal Lake and Cranberry Lake, are within the CDP.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Manistee Township has a total area of 48.2 square miles (125 km 2), of which 44.4 square miles (115 km 2) are land and 3.8 square miles (9.8 km 2), or 7.92%, are water. [1] The Manistee River crosses the southern part of the township, flowing into Manistee Lake at the southwest border.
