Paul Reginald Bennett (born 4 February 1952) is an English former footballer who played as a centre-back during the FA Cup run of Southampton in 1976, and also had spells at Reading and Aldershot. Early days
Bennett was an Everton youth team player before joining Port Vale in September 1978. [1] He made his debut as a substitute in a 1–1 draw with Peterborough United at London Road on 1 November 1980, and three weeks later he scored his first goal in a 4–2 win over Bradford City. [1]
Bennett was a hard-hitting safety and a fierce punt returner. He is a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame and won a Grey Cup with Hamilton in 1986 (whom he played with from 1985 to 1987,) after stints at the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1980–1983), and Toronto Argonauts (1977–1979 and 1984). Bennett retired in 1987 after eleven seasons.
