Robert Dundas of Arniston, the elder, 2nd Lord Arniston (1685–1753) was a Scottish lawyer, and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1722 to 1737. In 1728 he reintroduced into Scottish juries the possible verdicts of guilty or not guilty as against proven or not proven .
Robert Dundas of Arniston (6 June 1758 – 17 June 1819) was a Scottish judge. Dundas served as Solicitor General for Scotland between 1784 and 1789 and as Lord Advocate from 1789 to 1801. He sat as Member of Parliament for Edinburghshire from 1790 to 1801, and was Chief Baron of the Exchequer in Scotland from 1801 until his death in 1819.

Robert Dundas of Arniston, the younger, FRSE (18 July 1713 – 13 December 1787) was a Scottish judge. He served as Solicitor General for Scotland from 1742 to 1746, as Lord Advocate from 1754 to 1760, and as Member of Parliament for Midlothian from 1754 to 1761.
He was the eldest son of Sir James Dundas, Lord Arniston, by Marion, daughter of Robert, Lord Boyd. He was educated abroad, but returned to Scotland as an adherent of the Prince of Orange , and represented Midlothian in the parliaments of 1700–2 and 1702–7.
The estate had belonged to the late Henry Dundas, Viscount Melville who had died in 1811. Lord Melville was his second cousin, once removed, being both descended from James Dundas, Lord Arniston (albeit from different marriages). [2] Dundas was created a Baronet of Beechwood in the County of Midlothian on 24 August 1821. [3]

The Dundas baronetcy, of Beechwood in the County of Midlothian, was created in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom on 24 August 1821 for Robert Dundas. [1] He was succeeded by his son David, the 2nd Baronet; three of his six sons, the 3rd, 4th and 5th Baronets, all succeeded in the title.
