West Lake Hills (locally referred to as "Westlake" [5]) is a city in Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,444 at the 2020 census . The city was established and incorporated in 1953 and developed rapidly in the 1970s and 1980s, especially on the south side of the Colorado River .
Lakehills is located 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Bandera and 30 miles (48 km) west of Downtown San Antonio. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 34.4 square miles (89 km 2), of which 30.3 square miles (78 km 2) is land and 4.1 square miles (11 km 2) (11.87%) is water.
The Schwab project includes a $315 million, 1,160,000 square-foot regional campus in Westlake that ultimately will bring 5,000 jobs to the North Texas within 10 years. Developers also plan a hotel, retail stores, and residences. The Schwab campus will be on the Westlake-Roanoke border, just north of JT Ottinger Road and west of Turner Lake.
Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve consists of 227 acres (919,000 m 2) of native Texas Hill Country habitat west of Austin, Texas in West Lake Hills.The preserve was founded in 1974 by seven women who were members of an environmentalist group called Now or Never, and it was Austin's first nature preserve.
