A critical highway linking Idaho and Wyoming has closed indefinitely after a portion of the road cracked and then collapsed in a “catastrophic landslide” Saturday, officials said.
The road was closed at the time of the collapse. The section that failed first drew attention Thursday when a crack and drop in the road contributed to the crash of a motorcycle.
In early June, a crack developed in Wyoming Highway 22 at the Teton Pass and officials closed the road for patch work. It reopened to traffic but just two days later the road collapsed.
