Huntingdon Godmanchester. Huntingdon and Godmanchester was a municipal borough in Huntingdonshire (and then Huntingdon and Peterborough) from 1961 to 1974. [1]It was formed on 1 April 1961 by the merger of the boroughs of Huntingdon and Godmanchester.
Alconbury was listed as Acumesberie and Almundeburie in the Hundred of Leightonstone in Huntingdonshire in the Domesday Book of 1086. [2] [3] There was one manor 17.5 households at Alconbury. [4] The survey records that there were 18 ploughlands with the capacity for a further two, and 80 acres (32 hectares) of meadows. [4]
Norman Cross was the most northerly of the four Hundreds of Huntingdonshire, the hundreds into which the county of Huntingdonshire was divided. It was named after the cross which stood at the junction of Ermine Street and the road from Yaxley to Folksworth, which was named "Norman" after a Scandinavian settler or "Northman". [5]
