Duronto Express, translating to "restless" in Bengali, is a class of long-distance rapid trains operated by Indian Railways.Initially conceived to operate non-stop between origin and destination stations, since January 2016, these trains have been permitted to make additional commercial stops and accept ticket bookings from technical halts.
Due to its central location, Nagpur is a rail junction connecting India's four major metropolises: Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Kolkata. [3] A total of 242 trains [ 4 ] (passenger, express, mail, Duronto , Rajdhani Express and the Garib Rath) stop at Nagpur, one of the country's busiest junctions.
The Delhi-Varanasi corridor of 813-kilometre (505 mi) length will connect Varanasi to Delhi through twelve stations via Lucknow. Depending on the cost feasibility, a spur route to Ayodhya may also be planned as a part of the network. The entire section is part of the greater Delhi-Kolkata corridor.
The airport spread over 1,460 acres is also home to Nagpur Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force. Growth in passenger traffic is fuelled by passengers traveling to and from the state capital Mumbai, located over 700 km (378 mi) away and the national capital Delhi. The airport has one terminal and has two aerobridges.
The station will be expanded to handle more passenger capacity and trains by integrating it with the Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed rail corridor, from where the conversion of four tracks into six tracks will get branched towards Sabarmati and another towards Nagpur. The Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed corridor is slated to be completed by 2032. [10]
The 22209 / 22210 Mumbai–New Delhi Duronto Express, also known as Mumbai AC Duronto Express, is a 16 Coached fully air-conditioned, non-stop version of Duronto-type service running between Mumbai Central and New Delhi. It is one of the fastest train to connect Maharashtra to Delhi. It is maintained by Western Railways (WR), Mumbai division.
