Lows: poor student support resources (tutoring, counseling, accommodations and support for disability, academic advising). Usually this is a matter of funding (UNC gets loads of money), but there were many resources I used at App which were better quality than both NCSU and UNC with less funding.

UNC has its share of annoying hippies and extreme leftists, while NCSU has its share of annoying rednecks. The vast majority of people at each school are super cool, though. Better athletics- UNC, without question. NCSU has a better football culture, but top-to-bottom UNC is and always has been an athletic powerhouse.
