The hot water pressure in every other faucet in the house is fine, but in the shower it's a little more than a trickle. I removed the shower head and pulled out the cartridge (it looks kind of like this). The water was only coming out of the left hole and it was hot water. There was no cold water coming out.
The issue is not with the shower head as the hot water pressure is also very low out of the tub faucet compared to the cold pressure. I have disassembled and removed the entire faucet assembly including the cartridge, and when the water is turned back on pressure is low even directly from the pipe. When I start the shower (hot water only OR mixing cold water), OR start faucet (hot water only OR mixing cold water) the pressure of hot water suddenly goes down and pipes start banging. Note I do not run shower or faucet at the same time. This happens sporadically, not consistently, but very frequently. No banging noise or issues in the kitchen.
The water pressure is really low, especially when it's turned to hot. Every other fixture in the house works fine (even upstairs). I took off the tub faucet fixture to see if sediment had accumulated in there, but when I turn on the water and watch it come straight out the piping, I see the same thing.
I have great water pressure (both hot and cold) in the front of my house (1st floor and 2nd floor bathrooms). In the back of my house (1st floor kitchen and 2nd floor laundry room) the hot water pressure is great but the cold water pressure is very low.
on a complete side note and still very relevant to troubleshooting pressure - I have about 120 feet from main to my house. If you have a long distance like this you will not have the best water pressure on the block. This is simply due to friction. The longer the line the less water pressure. Some people might suggest upping the line to 1".
The plumber said something about the restrictor in the shower head, I removed-it did not improve. I let it be since the water pressure was acceptable.-Over the years the water pressure got less and less, similarly the water temp was reduced noticeably. However, the tub in the same bathroom has an incredible pressure and gets very hot.
Suddenly the hot water pressure dropped in both. The cold is fine and we haven't noticed any change in the faucets in the house. What could make my hot water pressure change from fine one day, then low the next? We have taken the shower heads off and the water coming out is still low so it's not a blockage in the head.
I had very low water pressure coming out of my bathtub spout and the shower diverter was faulty so I removed the spout. The pressure was low coming out of the 1/2 inch copper pipe. I then replaced the Moen 1222 single handle cartridge.
If that is not enough or you like the current head you can install a device. You need to add a valve between the pipe and shower head. There are inexpensive on/off valves ; about one inch long, chrome , 90 degree turn. They tend to be stiff to turn but you probably only need to adjust it once. Post Your Answer.
