The Shab Bhar Mosque (Urdu: شب بهر مسجد; meaning "Overnight mosque") is a colonial era mosque in the Shah Alami neighbourhood of Lahore, Pakistan. The mosque is said to have been built overnight, following a dispute between local Hindus and Muslims in 1917. [1]
On the occasion of the 2nd Islamic Summit held at Lahore on 22 February 1974, thirty-nine heads of Muslim states offered their Friday prayers in the Badshahi Mosque, including, among others, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto of Pakistan, Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Muammar Gaddafi, Yasser Arafat, and Sabah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah of Kuwait.
The mosque has a gateway, which measures 21.3 metres in length and a courtyard that measures 161.5 by 160.6 metres (530 ft × 527 ft).The marble domes cover seven prayer chambers. Four lofty minarets stand at the four corners of the mosque, each with an outer circumference of 20 metres (66 ft), soaring up to 54 metres (177 ft).
The mosque features Lahore's first five-bay prayer chamber that would later be typical of all later Mughal mosques such as the Wazir Khan Mosque and Badshahi Mosque. The mosque's central bay is in the style of the Persian Char Taq, and is flanked by one smaller dome on either side. [28] The mosque originally had 3 gateways, of which 2 survive. [11]
Grand Jamia Mosque Lahore (Urdu: گرینڈ جامع مسجد) is a mosque located in Bahria Town, Lahore, Pakistan. Haveli Barood Khana is located in the Walled City of Lahore facing the Lahore Fort, close to Taxali Gate. It is also close to the Shahi Mohallah Bazaar, Jamia Masjid Hanfia, the shrine of Pir Hazrat Baba Nauguzah and Badshahi Mosque. The British built a water tank near the haveli which supplied water to the city. [6] [7]
