The Upper Highway Area is a suburban region situated west of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. [1] The region forms part of the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality and encompasses a collection of interconnected suburban communities stretching from Kloof in the east to Botha's Hill in the west.
Hillcrest is situated in the Upper Highway Area of Durban, approximately 32 kilometres (20 mi) north-west of the city and is bordered by Gillitts and Everton to the east, Waterfall to the north-east and Botha's Hill and Assagay to the north-west.
The whole area is known as the Upper Highway Area as the M13 highway intersects it. While some residents do seem to complain about the mist, it does usually come as a welcome relief to the intense humidity of the area. Gillitts has remained fairly stable while Kloof and Hillcrest in the surrounding areas are growing quite rapidly.

Waterfall is situated in the Upper Highway Area of Durban, approximately 33 kilometres (20 mi) north-west of the city and is bordered by Hillcrest to the south-west, Kloof to the south-east and KwaNgcolosi and KwaNqetho to the north.
It begins by going north-north-east for 12 kilometres as the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Highway (formerly Southern Freeway [2]), parallel to the R102, to reach the Durban Central Business District near the Port of Durban, where it stops being a highway and makes a left and a right turn to join the R102 and be co-signed with it through the city centre.
