The R-Type is a family of straight-4 turbocharged diesel engines developed by both Nissan and Renault, and also Daimler in regarding the R9M/OM626 engine. Released in 2011, it replaced the 1.9 dCi engine in Renault's range and the 2.0 dCi in the Nissan Qashqai, and in 2015, it also replaced the 2.0 dCi in the Renault Mégane as well.
The M281 uses an aluminium alloy cylinder block and head, and features a dual overhead camshaft with 4 valves per cylinder. [1] It is transversely mounted and is available in three configurations: naturally aspirated with 45 kW (60 hp) or 53 kW (71 hp), or as a turbocharged 66 kW (89 hp) version.
Diesel engines are typically well suited to turbocharging due to two factors: A "lean" air–fuel ratio, caused when the turbocharger supplies excess air into the engine, is not a problem for diesel engines, because the torque control is dependent on the mass of fuel that is injected into the combustion chamber (i.e. air-fuel ratio), rather than the quantity of the air-fuel mixture.

The Renault G-Type was a family of naturally aspirated and turbocharged straight-four indirect injection and common rail injection diesel engines. They feature an iron block and aluminum head.
From 1995 (series 2 engines), both the RB25DE and RB25DET had a revised electrical system and the turbocharger on the RB25DET(S2) had a ceramic turbine wheel rather than aluminium. The most obvious change to the system was the introduction of ignition coils with built in ignitors, therefore the coil ignitor that was on previous models was not used.
