As well as publishing, Stanley Gibbons is a stamp dealer with a retail business located on the Strand in their Central London offices offering both older stamps and new issues and fulfilling customer want lists. They produce their own line of other philatelic products, such as albums, stock books, and other accessories.
As the hobby and study of stamps began to grow, stamp albums and stamp related literature began to surface, and by the early 1880s publishers like Stanley Gibbons made a business out of this advent. Children and teenagers were early collectors of stamps in the 1860s and 1870s.
In 1890 Phillips purchased Stanley Gibbons & Co. [1] for £25,000. It had first been offered to Theodor Buhl for £20,000. [2] Phillips wrote numerous philatelic articles, including those published in The Gibbons Monthly Journal, The Stamp Advertiser and Auction Record and the Gibbons Stamp Weekly where he wrote articles on various collections he had helped build or sold.

The Philatelic Exporter, established May 1945, was a trade magazine produced for the international stamp trade. [1] It was published monthly by Stanley Gibbons who acquired the title in January 2009 from Heritage Studios Limited. [2] It ceased publication in February 2023. [3] The final editor was Alison Boyd. [4]
In November 2017 it was announced that Stanley Gibbons' stamp investment subsidiary in Guernsey had been placed in administration. The company was reported to have £12.6 million of philatelic stock but over £70m of liabilities, made up of £54m of "buy-back" guarantees, £6.5m owed to its parent company, and £11m of sundry liabilities.
